Exposing the past at Ugbrooke House

Posted on March 13, 2020 by Forde George

Forde George have been involved at Ugbrooke House for a number of years, undertaking numerous fascinating works. The latest proving to be the most revealing. Under the scrutiny of Historic England, the largely C19 internal finishes are being removed to reveal the C18 structures designed by Robert Adam, but also in the process exposing what is believed to be much of the earlier building, about which very little is known. the scars of later strcutures abutting original can be seen.

With thanks to Alexander Clifford and Isca Preservation

C19 range revealed

From original kitchens, to squash court and back to kitchen
Butlers snug
C19 tiling in kitchen range
Just a relieving arch, but beautiful
Prototype extract?
vault below the tower
So many infilled windows and doors

Office Reconstruction

Posted on by Forde George

Wonderful to receive a glowing review from a frankly top client on completion of a project – complete rebuild of the rear of the Beviss and Beckingsale Grade II listed offices in Axminster….

Highly recommend David George. He worked on a project for my building at work. This was a very unexpected project due to a lorry driving into the building. He attended site the next day and project managed the building and contractors. Due the the building being listed we came across numerous issues, all which were managed well and didn’t hold up the time scale of the project. The building was completed ahead of schedule. Throughout David was professional and helpful. Since the project was completed I have used David on several of our other buildings. Cannot recommend enough.

Conservation and Repairs to Grade I Listed Ugbrooke Park

Posted on October 31, 2018 by Forde George

Ugbrooke Park, the Grade I Listed Robert Adam Home of the Clifford family has seen the completion of extensive repair following significant weather damage in early 2018. A number of the principal rooms required specialist plaster conservation repair, detailed decoration analysis and replication and new fabrics and wall hangings. David George (Accredited Conservation surveyor) has provided technical advice to the Estate for a number of years and acted as Contract Administrator. “thanks have to be given to the collective hard work of the principal contractor ‘Corbel’ and specialist conservator Janie Lightfoot as well of course from Alexander Clifford who ensured that Estate’s busy corporate and social calendar was not compromised”

3D Modelling … It’s not just for Architects!

Posted on January 12, 2017 by Forde George

Whilst many believe that conceptual design, 3D modelling and visualisations can only be obtained from the employment of an Architect, this could not be further from the truth.

Here at Forde George we are increasingly being asked to lend our expertise, not just for the purposes of condition surveys, but also for the creation of concept designs. Using the latest in BIM programming, our in-house CAD team are often requested to create 3D visualisations and ‘walk-through’ videos of such concept designs, allowing our clients to gain a more realistic feel of how their property could look.

Below are a few visuals from a first draft concept proposal for one of our clients in Exeter, including a screen shot of the model in progress (Image 4).  More detailed designs and models can include elements such as: landscaping (topography) to show how the building sits in the surrounding land, imagery to indicate how a building would look in its street scene, and high level rendering to show how the materials and colour choices of a structure
